ALMA is a scientific laboratory working in the field of cultural heritage. Combining the branches of the natural sciences, art and the history of art, it pursues deepening the knowledge of painting materials and techniques. The gained knowledge is integrated to a complete evaluation of painted art works with respect to their origin, age, and authenticity. ALMA Laboratory develops instrumental materials analysis methods and interprets the results in the context of art history and history of materials technology.
The even year 2012 will bring the 4th ALMA interdisciplinary seminar intended for Czech experts and students of subjects dealing with artworks and cultural heritage protection. Its crucial topic is Knowledge and experience in the fine art – from understanding materials to technological applications.
Dear friends of the ALMA laboratory, the year is coming to an end. Therefore we would like to wish you merry Christmas and a happy new year. May the upcoming year be successful in all spheres of your lives and may your troubles "dissolve" at least as much as the verdigris crystals in the tempera in the introductory picture to this news.
Within the Week of Science and Technology 2011 our colleague David Hradil gave an interesting lecture revealing unexpected secrets of several paintings as an example of the ALMA laboratory´s activities. We thank all the “live” listeners and bring good news for the others: If you missed the lecture, you can now watch it online (in Czech)!
