Painting

ALMA Laboratory, the knowledge of historical painting techniques is used for the preparation of various model samples and mock-ups for the purpose of analytical tests, verification of painting technologies, or for experimental work (study of chemical interactions, ageing, etc.). Model samples include both simple paintings on various supports as well as highly complex sequences of paint layers prepared for a specific purpose.

The ultimate part of replication of the painting layers is the creation of technological copies, which combines technical knowledge and artistic erudition. The technological copies represent certain periods, painters or workshops and are prepared by qualified restorers participating in the scientific projects. The copies may be used for verification of technological and aesthetic qualities of tested materials in real painting, or for educational purposes.
