The organizers, thanks to IUCr financial support can provide bursaries to students or young scientists who will attend the Meeting. The first requirement for obtaining a bursary is the submission of an regular abstract. Also an age limit of 35 applies.
For the first time the conference is held in Brno – the capital of South-Moravian region.
For the first time the conference is co-organized together by Czech and Slovak partners.
For the first time the conference hosts CrysAC Workshop focused on pigment degradation.
For the first time the conference enters the tandem with regular international meetings on “X-ray and other techniques in investigation of the objects of cultural heritage” held in Krakow at the end of May every even year. The date was, therefore, postponed from the traditional November of an even year to May/June of an odd year to achieve regular annual periodicity of these two alternating international conferences in the Central European region.

Paintings change even after being painted. Significant changes affect their identity and authenticity. The conference will focus on interdisciplinary case studies observing the transformation of paintings in time and from any perspective. Topics for discussion will mainly be:
(i) the processes of material degradation,
(ii) „life stories“ of artworks in the light of historical vs. analytical facts,
(iii) restoration and preservation of modern art
